Northfield Neighborhood - Meeting Minutes - 04/07/08 The meeting was called to order at 7:05 by Sebastian Wren, President. Introductions were made of all neighbors present. TREASURER'S REPORT: Joe Carcione, Treasurer Current balance $1553.04. Sebastian reports that the membership drive in the most recent Newsletter have resulted in mail-in memberships; the printing cost of the newsletter was (approx) $658, the cost of envelopes (approx) $96 and ad income is anticipated to be (approx) $755 producing a profit of 62 cents! Sebastian ordered 11 new NNA Meeting announcement yard signs ($216) from North Loop Signs. They will be ready soon and Sebastian will post onto the NNADL of their availability (free!). It is hoped that folks who live in the high traffic areas will consider having and using a sign to publicize meetings. KEEPER OF THE GREEN Cindy Black reported: "It's My Park Day" is Saturday April 11th 10 AM- 1 PM. A city-wide parks improvement day will be celebrated in our Bruning Green. Work to be done will be weeding, planting and moving some plants. It is hoped that lots of folks will volunteer. Snacks and water will be provided. Those who sign up in advance will receive Tshirts. The problematic crushed granite pathway in Bruning Green will be paved, the project having received funds from the North Loop Neighborhood Plan. In addition, a curb will be placed along Bruning Avenue. Work to begin within a month or so. NORTHLOOP PLANNING TEAM Sebastian discussed that informal conversations are occurring regarding possible re-visit of the Plan and revisions to keep up with projects that have reached completion and changes in the neighborhood including looking at the transit corridors of North Lamar, Airport, and Koenig Lane. Neighbors are encouraged to participate: upcoming meetings are on June 12, Sept 11, and Dec. 11th. Discussion revolved around ideas that might be addressed: Sidewalks, new park at 55 1/2 st, re-look at "overlays" (prohibited business types), transit options, on-street parking problems. CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES TAKE NORTHFIELD NEIGHBORHOOD TOUR Sebastian related that two City Council candidates (Laura Morrison and Randi Shade )responded to his invitation to visit our neighborhood and that he took them on a tour of sites/issues such as super-two, pedestrian issues, flooding, and McDorms. ELECTIONS: New officers were elected. Jody Horton (President), Clay Crenshaw (Vice President), Lisa G. Wright and Lindsey Schell (co-secretaries), Annie Ervin (Treasurer), Sebastian Wren (Newsletter Editor), Tim Tichler (Web Master) and Cindy Black (Keeper of the Green). Congratulations to new incoming officers. Thank you to those officers continuing to serve. Ballots also asked to share preference for priorities for the future work of the NNA. Responses were: More parties !, No more super-two's, Sidewalks, Business expansion on North Loop, crime/vandalism, zoning, Continued neighborhood awareness, Problems associated with Lee properties, Cultivate local small business, Come to some agreement about VMU before the decision is made, Finding workable solutions to attract good redevelopment that still meets neighbor's needs, Transit corridor issues, Outreach to residents (events, blockwalking, presentations) to increase participation and show residents the concrete benefits of the Neighborhood Association.
