Northfield Neighborhood - Meeting Minutes - 06/05/06 The June 5, 2006 meeting of the Northfield Neighborhood Association was called to order at 7:05 PM by Sebastian Wren, President. Introductions of all attending were made. TREASURER'S REPORT: Joe Carcione reported a balance of $1305.83. Income of $235 has been received (2 new memberships + $215 in newsletter ads). No expenses this past month. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: will be held nationally on Tuesday August 1, 2006. The NNA's NNO will be held from 7-9 PM. After discussion of location, it was felt that the new cafe Epoch would be a fun location for this year's celebration. Monte Newton will follow up regarding availability of this location, owners approval, availability of electricity etc. Jan motioned to allocate $100 from the treasury for "munchies". Annie Ervin seconded the motion and the motion was passed by a unanimous vote of members. The "NNO Committee" will be Sebastian Wren, Jan Seward, and Monte Newton. Johnny Barnett, former neighborhood resident and owner of the Austin Unique business has approached Sebastian regarding a potential NORTH LOOP FESTIVAL. Potential date is Weds Oct 10 from 6-9 PM, possibly in the Sari parking lot. The purpose is to promote business-resident community. Discussion was held and questions were raised regarding cost (to businesses?) etc. More information is needed. Sebastian will invite Mr. Barnett (who was not present at tonight's meeting) to come to the July NNA meeting for further discussion. TRAFFIC ISSUES: 1) Sebastian has met with City of Austin Traffic Engineers. A traffic study has begun today on W 55th St, W 54th St, Ave. F, Chesterfield, and Nelray Streets. The results (the amount, speed of traffic) will determine whether the stop signs currently stopping east-west traffic will be reversed to stop north-south traffic. 2) Parking problems on Nelray street- Discussion regarding possible solutions (Permits? Can we restrict parking? No-parking zones? Enforcement?) and ramifications was held. Sebastian will invite an official to a NNA meeting to continue exploring our options. 3) Excess speed on 51st street and North Loop: the possibility of obtaining a permanent "Your speed is" radar sign will be investigated. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Important Austin meetings about zoning and development are being held this week. Tuesday June 6th- Planning Commission/McMansion Task Force and Thursday June 8th City Council votes on McMansion ordinance. Sebastian strongly encourages folks to show up or at least email City Council. Please see emails sent by Sebastian (NNADL and NNDL) of June 5th, 2006 or email Sebastian Wren for more information swren@balancedreading.com In an effort to increase active membership, Sebastian used the database of the NNA members to contact 50 former members whose membership has lapsed. He sent personal letters to the former members asking them to please renew their membership, become active again, and help the neighborhood association better represent the residents of Northfield.
