Northfield Neighborhood - Meeting Minutes - 06/04/07 The meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM by Monty Newton, Vice President. TREASURER'S REPORT: Joe Carcione, Treasurer, reported a current balance of $1502.95. The next meeting will be held July 9, the second Monday of the month, due to the holiday the preceding week. FRANKLIN & GUADALUPE DUPLEXES: Cindy Black informed the group of a five star green building project in the neighborhood designed by Rick Black Architect. The project consists of two two-story units per property (four units total, 1700-1800 square feet each). No variances are needed as the design is within the floor-to-area ratio prescribed by the McMansion ordinance. The landscape plan has not yet been developed, although xeriscaping or an otherwise sustainable design is anticipated. Construction is anticipated to start this month. More information can be found on the following website: Rick Black Architect . 5206 EVANS: The house on this property is being moved and the new developers are asking for a 15% increase over the allowed floor-to-area ratio. A hearing is scheduled for this week and Joe or Monty will attend to tell the commission/board that the developers have made no effort to contact the neighborhood group about this project, and until that is done, the neighborhood cannot support the project. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT (NNO): NNO is scheduled for Tuesday August 7th in Bruning Green. Details will be discussed during the July meeting. Cindy suggested that the event start later in the evening (8pm) due to the heat. While there was general agreement to this suggestion, there was some concern that children will be less likely to attend. There was also talk of getting a tent to mitigate the heat. Casa Brazil has lent the NNA a tent in the past; however, its transport was not easy. SIGNS: The sign store on Northloop Blvd. has agreed to give the NNA a 20% discount on signs. This would make the cost of a 2-sided, 1-color on white sign $8.40. This agreement was made with the assumption that the NNA would order 26 signs. There was some discussion as to how many signs are needed for the NNO event and for NNA monthly meetings, but no decision was made on how many to order. NEWSLETTER DEADLINE: Beka declared the deadline for newsletter submissions to be June 30th. She will add the NNO info after the July 9th meeting. We are looking forward to a section on the neighborhood’s oral history as well as the lightning damage recently suffered by the Dayspring Chapel, among other sure-to-be interesting articles. OTHER: • The Ridgetop neighborhood received a commitment from the city for $160,000 in traffic calming implementation, including a no entry barrier at 52nd and the I-35 frontage road, and speedbumps on 53rd and Harmon. This area was facing problems from cut-through due to signal back-up on the highway frontage road. • Montage is moving into Satsuma soon. • The city may be digging up some neighborhood streets to get to Mueller. • According to a city directory from the 1930s, a Pairmont Barbers used to be located in Bruning Green. Also, there has been mention of a dairy farm at Northloop and Avenue F. Anyone with more information should contact Beka.
