Northfield Neighborhood - Meeting Minutes - April 2, 2009
Meeting was called to order at 7:05 by President Jody Horton.
Elections for the NNA officers were introduced by Jody. Paper ballots were not available but Robert's rules allows for vote by acclimation.
The slate for officers is:
President: Will Bown
Vice-President: Angus Tilney
Co-Secretary: Jan Seward
Co-Secretary: Mary Patrick
Treasurer: Annie Ervin
Webmaster: Lisa Wright
Keeper of the Green: Cindy Black
Newsletter Editor: Open
Newsletter Delivery coordinator: Brenda Brenner
A motion was made to accept the slate of officers. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously by those present. The new officers will begin their terms immediately.
Scott Johnson spoke about the Neighborhood watch and the recent break-ins on 55 1/2 st. He reminded neighbors to secure valuables in cars, close window shades at night and don't provide opportunity for theft.
Jody said he has asked the city to install a crosswalk at Chesterfield and Northloop to provide some safety for those heading to and from Epoch coffeehouse. The city representative who walked the area with Jody also saw a need for a bike lane along the Waller creek side of Chesterfield. This will eliminate parking on that side and provide an easier transition for the crosswalk at the curb. Jody said anyone can call Colly Kreider (974-7063) at the city regarding "liability issues" in sidewalks and curbs. The city is mandated to address these in a short time frame.
Justin presented his idea for "Good Neighbor Service Projects" - the fliers went out about a month ago and the first service project was held Saturday, April 4 to do yard work for a disabled neighbor. About 25 neighbors have signed up so far to participate and more are welcome. Only one person has responded to Justin for needing assistance and he believes many others who need assistance might not ask for it - so please let him know if you have a neighbor in need. Projects can involve just about anything from yardwork to meal delivery to shopping, etc...Projects will likely be organized once a month.
Jody presented a variance case - an anonymous complaint was submitted regarding the improper setbacks of his own backyard storage shed after Jody complained to the city regarding the job performance of the code enforcement officer. Jody believes the anonymous complaint is retaliation from the CE officer, as the fine and deadline imposed by the city is excessive compared to others we have seen in the neighborhood. Jody requested the neighborhood approve a variance for his shed so that the case can move forward. Jody left the room and a motion was made to support his variance request. The motions was seconded and unanimously approved by those present.
