Northfield Neighborhood - Meeting Minutes - March 2, 2009 Minutes for Northfield Neighborhood Association Meeting Monday, March 2, 2009 at Phara’s Restaurant Jody Horton called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m. Scott Johnson mentioned that he is concerned with the ordinance regarding side-yard parking, as well as with the issue of the auto dealer on Avenue F and 53rd parking cars in the bike lane. He would like the neighborhood association to draft a letter to the owner discussing the problem. Scott also reminded everyone about the Central Texas Electric Lawn Mower program that he runs. Nominations/Volunteers for Officer Positions Elections for officer positions will take place in the April 6, 2009 meeting at Dayspring Chapel at 7 p.m. All active members of the association are eligible to vote. We received several volunteers for the upcoming cycle (May 2009-April 2010); however, we are in need of volunteers for co-secretary, vice president, and newsletter editor. Co-secretary and newsletter editor are particularly urgent. Current volunteers are: President: Will Bown Vice President: Open Treasurer: Annie Ervin (continuing) Co-secretary: Jan Seward. Another co-secretary is requested so that duties can be shared Newsletter Editor: Open Newsletter Distribution: Brenda Benner (continuing) Webmaster: Lisa Wright Keeper of the Green: Cindy Black (continuing) Please consider volunteering for one of these positions. The co-secretary will need to be available on Monday evenings to attend meetings and take notes (duty shared with other co-secretary). Other Business Jody Horton announced that he will be applying for a variance for a shed on his property that is encroaching on the setbacks. He plans to ask the neighborhood to vote in favor at the next meeting. The structure did not require a permit to be built. Presentation about Rainforest Partnership Niyanta Spelman, Executive Director of Rainforest Partnership (http://www.rainforestpartnership.org) presented information about the Austin-based non-profit organization. Their mission is to work with communities in Central and South America to create sustainable economic opportunities that preserve the rainforest eco-system and still allow communities to develop and make use of their resources. She discussed the destruction of the rainforests due to deforestation through burning and the impact that has on the climate, including rainfall in Central Texas. More information is available on their web site, and they have a Facebook group as well.
